Check dissertation page layout, colour, copies, binding and submission deadlines before arranging a thesis print.
Use your institution’s submission rules
Read the current instructions from your department or graduate school. Confirm whether a paper copy is required, which version to submit, the paper size, margins, number of copies and binding type. Requirements can differ between examination and final archival copies.
Check the title page, declaration, appendices, references and any required signatures. Ask your institution about uncertain requirements before ordering.
Check the final PDF from cover to cover
Export one complete PDF when the print should form one volume. Check page numbering, contents references, equations, symbols, image resolution and intentional blank pages. Verify the saved file on another viewer if you have had font or layout problems.
Double-sided pages can change which side a chapter starts on. Allow the binding margin required by your chosen finish. Keep the final editable document and a backup of the PDF.
Confirm binding before ordering
Spiral, soft and hard binding are different production jobs. Check which finish a provider can supply, including any cover, spine lettering, page-count or file requirements. Ask for a reviewed custom quote if the required finish is outside the standard options.
Binding availability is provider-specific. A printable PDF and a courier quote alone do not confirm that the required bound submission can be produced.
Budget for the complete submission
Compare the same page count, colour selection, number of copies, binding and fulfilment method. Include a personal reference copy only if you need one. Check whether all copies need identical finishing.
Allow time for file preparation, production, binding, transport and inspection before the submission deadline. Use the timing actually offered for your order.
